Participate in iPics

In the first year of the project, we expect to support up to nine incoming first-year majors, and up to six sophomores and juniors in computer science and mathematics. Scholarships will be in the amount of approximately $5,300 per student per year for four years. Scholarships will be renewable each year as long as students continue to meet the requirements.

Scholarship recipients will meet on a regular weekly basis with fellow iPics scholars and faculty mentors, be organized into learning communities, and engage in research and projects focused on a common theme of computational science. (Computational science is an emerging area in which concepts from computer science and mathematics are applied to solve problems in mathematics, computer science, and science.) Students will also engage in significant advising, mentoring, and tutoring activities that supplement those already provided by the College.

All eligible students are invited to apply for a scholarship through the iPics program.

About iPics

TCNJ recently received funding from the National Science Foundation to improve the pipeline of students majoring in mathematics and computer science.  The grant seeks to improve retention and graduation rates for students by providing enhanced student support services. Our grant “Innovative Projects in Computational Science” (iPics) will support students with partial scholarships and be organized around problems in computational science.  Computational science is an emerging new area in science in which students use both mathematics and computer science skills to solve problems in mathematics, computer science, and science.

We are looking to support mathematics and computer science majors with a demonstrated unmet financial need.  We are especially interested in students from traditionally underrepresented groups (including women) in computer science and mathematics.

Students will meet on a regular weekly basis with fellow iPics scholars and faculty mentors.  Students will be participate in various group activities and will work in small groups on a project in computational science.

This year, we expect to support nine incoming first-year majors, and a few sophomores and juniors in computer science and mathematics. Scholarships will be renewable each year if students continue to meet the requirements.
